RYOKAN URASHIMA
This family-run inn and restaurant is on the coast of Sado Island. The main business is the restaurant. The building is therefore organized around a banquet hall, and the guest rooms are of secondary importance. A very low budget and an extremely short construction period made it necessary to use inexpensive but reliable components intended for factories and warehouses and to simplify the structural system and construction method. The aim was to avoid design cliches associated with inns and to adopt a new spatial vocabulary.
