T・N-HOUSE
The client had simple requirements. We had to design the first floor so that it could be converted into a gallery in the future and provide somewhere in the house a balcony for drinking tea. However, the project proved difficult. The site was only about 53 square meters in area, the budget was limited, and the ground was surprisingly weak. After much study, we arrived at the final scheme. The plan is symmetrical, and the structure and the mechanical services are concentrated in a central core, at the top of which is the balcony. Everything is a tight fit in this house. During the design process we felt it made no sense to have a balcony and thought about persuading the client to abandon the idea. However, it is this balcony that we thought made no sense that ultimately enriches the house.
