TOKYO TOWER RENOVATION
Tokyo Tower was completed in 1958, and renovation of the enormous original viewing platform was carried out in 2002. We were put in charge of a special viewing platform located 250m above ground level. Given that the theme of this facility is that the view is "things visible from here," we considered that one's awareness should be projected outside, and the place itself should vanish. Our only intervention was to alter the existing material finishes and install new lighting. Aluminum plate with a bead-blast finish, tapestry mirror glass, and strengthened non-slip tapestry mirror glass: by selecting dully-reflective materials, the sense of physical presence was erased. We paid close attention to the planning of reflected light from the materials and the ring of LED footlights.
