HOUSE IN KAMAKURA
Located on sloping terrain, the project site commands a distant view of Mt Fuji to the west, and on the opposite side is a lush outdoor environment filled with dense groves of trees. The inhabitants are a married pair of professional musicians, a pianist and a violinist, and so their lifestyle requires a piano studio and a violin studio. This is a dwelling in which daily life is combined with work. The two studios themselves are enclosed with reinforced concrete walls that act as box columns, creating a hybrid structure in which the first floor is reinforced concrete and the second floor is a timber structure. With the simplicity of a weekend dwelling, the second floor is a generous space through which the wind may pass.
